Campers and ULEZ

ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zones) its now been expanded across pretty much the whole of London and brinsg with it a hefty cost (£12.50 per day) if your vehicle isn’t compliant.  Be warned not all VW Transporter are ULEZ compliant.

What is ULEZ

ULEZ stands for Ultra low emission zones.  It is being brought in to tackle climate change by effectively forcing people to buy more economical (And better for the environment) vehicles.  It effects diesel vehicles and of course most Campervans are conversions of diesel panel vans.

ULEZ is based on the log book (V5) engine type and the rule of thumb is 2015 and before – not compliant I’m afraid.  However, it important if you live in a ULEZ zone or some of the other LEZ zones (Like Bradford) that you understand which vehicle is compliant before buying.

.

So which transporters are ULEZ Friendly

As discussed above the rule of thumb is anything older than 2015 is not compliant this is because in 2015 the VW T6 was released.  This has a EURO 6 compliant diesel engine.  Euro 6 is one of the things you will see advertised when buying a Van.  The Euro 6 standards replaced the previous set of limits - known as Euro 5, For a diesel to be Euro 6 compliant it cannot emit more than 80mg/km of NOx gases.

So you don’t have to have a Euro 6 ULEZ complaint Camper to enjoy the camper lifestyle but you do need to be aware that a lot of them are not compliant and any additional cost this may have for you.

There is an excellent site which has more details at What are Euro 6 emissions standards? Why you need to know | BuyaCar

Check out the DVLA site to see if your vehicle is compliant - Drive in a clean air zone - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
